All stylists have been there – chugging coffee in the morning and then devouring something unhealthy like a burger or pizza once afternoon hits. However, if you want to have a healthy, happy, long career as a hairstylist, salon owner and educator Lo Wheeler recommends being mindful of what you are putting into your body.
After a car accident that left Lo with some annoying back problems, she realized that what she was putting in her body might be her ticket to healing her body and feeling better during long days at the salon.
After a lot of research, trial and error, and doing what felt right, Lo started to find what worked for her. She says she eats as much raw foods as possible, sprinkling in some pescatarian elements, and because she just can’t give it up – a little cheese.
Lo says that the culture at your salon can heavily impact the food choices you’re making, and switching to mindful & healthy eating can positively impact the people you work with as well.
We hairstylists can’t afford to get sick or feel achy. In order to have a long and satisfying career we need to take care of our bodies. Lo recommends to start by trying to drink more water and research body inflammation. Comment or tag @hairloveretreat on Instagram and tell us what your healthy and mindful food choices are!
