Missy and Elizabeth hosted a webinar on how retail can change your business!
We know… A lot of people don’t love to sell retail. It can be hard and uncomfortable, BUT Missy wants you to know that selling retail can fun!
Elizabeth starts about with the question “Do you make a difference to the lives that are in your chair?” If your answer is yes, then you are doing a disservice to everyone that sits in your chair if you don’t tell them about the products you love!
Missy has been doing hair for over 17 years, and over the last year she has moved into education and teaching! Missy ignored retail for about 12 years, but now she understands why she ignored it, and has shifted her focus to selling retail because it is so important in your business!
A lot of us have had experiences when it comes to selling and it has been SO cringe worthy. From there, people shut down and form opinions about how selling is bad. Once Missy figured out things that worked for her, she set out to teach everyone! Everything she teaches, she has already tested out.
Missy has found that when she educates her clients, it helps build trust and loyalty.

When Missy was figuring out what brands she wanted to sell, she looked at brands that she had loyalty to and that treated her well. She didn’t want to feel like she was being sold to. She recommends to do your research, and find a good rep! You need to find a product that you believe in, because when you are truly passionate about a product it’s easy for your clients to feel your passion.
PRICE FOR SUCCESS
She looked at who her stylists were, and had to figure out what would be a comfortable selling point for them. If a client comes in and gets a $60 haircut, it’s a lot easier to sell them an $18 bottle of shampoo, rather than a $40 shampoo.
It’s crucial that you understand your target market!!! You need to know who they are, and what they are willing to spend, and then it’s a lot easier to sell retail to them!
SELL IN YOUR CONSULTATIONS (PRE AND POST)
Elizabeth believes that what you make is directly related to your communication skills! Consultations will change your life!
Pre- Consultations should be focused on what you are doing, what they will need to do at home, what their next appt will look like
Post-Consultations should be focused on what they need to at home and when they would like to come back in. Your post consultation is all about connecting the dots from the appt. Always remember.. the most important person in your business is the person in your chair!! Post consultations are EVERYTHING!
Missy believes that you can set the tone of the appt at the pre-consultation. If you can make your client feel a certain way, and trust you, they will be loyal to you forever.
The like and trust factor with your clients is what keeps them coming back! If you’re starting on in the pre-consultation by easing their worries, they are going to come back.
Ask your clients how they are, and what their pain points are with their hair, and then LISTEN! They will tell you what is wrong and then you can suggest products that will help them.
Then… Throughout their appointment, you need to always let them know what products you are using.
RETAIL EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
Empathy is a HUGE factor in your selling. You’re probably someone who feels too much, or feels not enough.
Own your sale, and remember to not think that you know what your client is feeling.
