EPISODE 24: EXCUSE ME, I JUST HAD A BABY

NEW BLOG POST (10).png

If you are a parent, if you have ever felt overwhelmed, if you have ever compared yourself to someone else – YOU ARE NOT ALONE. In this episode, Jamie Sea (prettylittleombre on IG) and Elizabeth talk about the pressure to grow their businesses and also be good mommies. Slow down and it’s ok to take a moment, because our most precious resource is time.

4:37 – Overcoming guilt and feeling like you’re failing (you aren’t, btw)

Jamie is a mother of two young girls, has a husband, nine employees to take care of, and her businesses. She talks about the intense emotions connected to making sacrifices to accommodate all the important people and projects in her life.

“It’s ok to not be all in it at all times with my business, because my babies need me.”

Another thing to remember before you go on IG and start comparing yourself to other mothers again, is that what is on social is JUST the highlight reel of that person’s life. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes that we just don’t know about.

9:06 – Remember, you’re in charge

You’re in charge of your business, you’re in charge of your life, you are allowed to take some time off if you need to. The guilt will be there, but you’ll learn how to deal with it.

“Half the time I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing, but then I’m remembering that most of what I’m doing brings me joy.”

If you’re a mom and you are running a business, find your FLOW, don’t chase balance. Your flow is whatever is working and going on at that moment.

13:57 – If you’re a creative, it’s time to start getting intentional

Sometimes we can overwork and overthink things, and we need to actually work less and put more energy into things. If you’re intentional about your work you can get more done with less time. For creatives especially, stillness will allow you to do more, be more, and function at a higher frequency when the ideas and work come.

Moral of the story: It is ok to need moments as a parent, woman, or business owner. We are all doing our best. And moms, think about the kind, gentle, and encouraging way you speak to your children. Start treating yourself with that same patience and grace, because you deserve it.

19:18 – Be kind to yourself

“However much kindness you pour into others, make sure you’re pouring into yourself.”
